Euromaidan: secret and obvious sources

The long Euromaidan will work against opposition, and the power in case of such «position» fight has obvious advantages —the political scientist, the adviser to the President of Ukraine answers the questions of «The world and we» Dmitry Ignatyevich Vydrin.

— The political scientists supporting opposition, state the conviction that the Euromaidan is especially national phenomenon, it arose spontaneously and oligarchs and the western countries simply adjoined this process. What do you think of such point of view, what actually is the driving forces of the Euromaidan?

Nobody precisely would answer this question because there are tens versions of answers and there is an element of truth and a lie in each answer. There is an element of truth that people independently left to support the views. There are many people from inhabitants of Kiev, enough educated who go there because consider that on the Maidan they will be able to organize something, to hear and tell.

The part of the truth, probably, its considerable part, is that someone was quite able, manipulating dreams and feelings of people, operates the Maidan. Any mass of people in respect of a life and actions have to be organized surely.

And, certainly, there are foreign «partners» of Maidan who try to solve the problems with its help. Therefore all these factors work. When I was asked abroad during the interview, what are the main groups presented on Maidan, I told for fun and then understood that it is not only a joke that I see three main social groups on Maidan. These are mature men who didn’t realize themselves in life, these are young, ugly women who didn’t have enough attention, and these are the western politicians who lost popularity in the countries and dream to return it.

It was the joke but when I looked narrowly, saw that really there are many men on Maidan who didn’t take place in business, science etc. and who consider that the «damned» power didn’t allow them to take place. They are right somewhere. Possibly that the power didn’t create workplaces in science, in heroic professions. I always said that any street, any Maidan are clumsy attempt of creation of the social elevator. People dream to rise somewhere on this elevator — to popularity, glory. And those people, who couldn’t find other social elevators in life, try to make such elevator of the Maidan. Frequently this attempt is clumsy. For example, the elevator broke at your place, and you try to create the self-made elevator from a box under the TV and the children’s diapers connected together. That turned out with the Maidan approximately.

Why ugly women? In principle, every woman has to be beautiful. And Europe already ceased to divide women on beautiful and ugly. By its archetype and stylistics Europe destroyed the concept of the ugly woman, having created unisex clothes in which all look equally, having forbidden, actually, at the level of fashion the cosmetics use is indecent. And in Ukraine for the present there is a division into well-cared women, well «dressed», well-groomed and women not well-groomed, ugly. But ugly women demand attention too. And the Maidan is the ideal place where you can receive attention even if you have no appearance, but you know three words: «Freedom. Equality. Brotherhood».

Also we saw the whole train of the western politicians on the Maidan who catastrophically lost popularity in the homeland, but this popularity, in their opinion, had to be restored after the international channels started showing them on barricades. In principle, these categories also move the Maidan.

But if to speak more seriously, there is a set of other reasons. And the main reasons that the power didn’t create those social elevators which are in any normal society. Such elevators are the uncut political vertical. And it is cut at the level of governors — we have no electivity of governors. We cut a vertical at the level of small business which is extremely complicated. Therefore in Ukraine it is two orders less, than in any other developed country.

We have no such socially elevator as science. In all normal countries the scientist is still a prestigious profession. Therefore all these reasons together — not demand, negligence, ugliness, not popularity led to that many came to the Maidan, presenting it as wonderful place of rise to certain transcendental layers. There is a cemetery in Jerusalem where the place for burial costs one million dollars because according to the legend those who is buried there, will rise to the heaven first. And the Maidan — this certain political place, from where many dream to rise firstly on the highest, light floors of political and social career. Therefore the Maidan already in many respects turned into religious, psychedelic community where there is more than belief, than analytics, much more dream, than sober calculation where catastrophically there is a lot of hope and catastrophically a little of common sense.

— What in your opinion occurred at night on November 30 during dispersal of protesters which turned the Euromaidan into the Maidan in its current form?

As the member of public council at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, I was on board a day before dispersal attempt. The Minister of Internal Affairs, his deputies, hierarches of Orthodox Church and political scientists acted there. Any person supported the dispersal of demonstrators. All said that this is the sacred right of people if they want to suffer at night on cold for the ideas. Therefore I witnessed that there were no orders a day before it, there was no idea of dispersal even.

And I was on the same board in the same structure next day, and I saw, in what shock there was the Minister of Internal Affairs and his first deputies as nobody expected that it will occur. Many shots of the occurred were shown. I had such opinion about this event. Firstly, there was substantially an uncontrollable and uncontrollable rage of young militiamen, members of spetsnaz who revenged for the friends, hackneyed storm men a day before it during storm of Cabinet of Ministers. Many militiamen were crippled, they wrung them hands, tried to beat out eyes, to break the heads. About 130 people suffered, 4 from them were in a serious condition. And therefore their companions had a desire to revenge for that occurred. At the beginning nobody bridled this desire in any way. There was no the commander who would order to stop.

Secondly, there was a known share of further falsification on the fact that occurred. Social composition of the beaten people shows that there were no students practically there. From 35 victims as it is specified in the report requested by me, there were only four students. The others were the unemployed aged from 35 till 55 years. It is too pity for them, and it is a pity that in Ukraine there is such number of the unemployed. Also it is a pity for people who, being without social mission and advantage, decided to lift self-esteem that spend the night on the Maidan. They shouldn’t be beaten too. But it is far not children, not students. Therefore there was a falsification in a known share.

Thirdly, there was also a known share of provocation. My familiar journalists make investigation, and they have attestations of eyewitnesses that this event had very thin direction. There were specially prepared children who «warmed» OMON fighters that stuck burning sticks into their faces, trying to burn out the eyes. And these people jumped out in time of a situation, and all rage of the «warmed» militiamen collapsed on nothing understanding people.

Therefore there was all in this situation — and thirst of revenge for friends at militiamen, and sluggish teams of commanders, and a provocation share as it was necessary to support Maidan «motor», and a share of misinformation in the subsequent covering of events of mass media.

— How do you estimate the diplomatic steps of Russia in relation to Ukraine in the circumstances? What value is signing of agreements matters on December 17 for Ukraine?

It seems to me that actions of the Russian colleagues were quite clumsy and untimely. Then they were smoothed by the economic help to some extent. But originally these actions substantially promoted the crisis in Ukraine.

As there are the Olympic Games in Russia, I will afford such metaphor. The situation in front of Vilnius reminded the bobsled competitions where there is a big, heavy bob. And this bob is dispersed by the heaviest participant of team. And here the bob under the name «Ukraine» already started dispersing. Behind the heaviest participant under the name President ran, pushed this bob. And when it already started dispersing, suddenly someone from the sympathizing audience cried — look at the finish, the medals are not of that sample which you expect. And dispersing which shouted before to bend down all the heads not to disturb bob movement, looked, saw that it is valid, the medals are not of that sample and cried: «brake, guys!». But it was already late to brake because the bob gained enormous inertia. And it inevitably force of inertia dragged both team, and the pusher.

Approximately there was such situation also. «Bob» was dispersed in the European Union for one year, enormous inertia was gained. Also Russia didn’t need to shout Glazyev’s voice that medals are false on the finish. It was necessary to tell — if you already rush, reach the finish, look what medals you will be handed over and when you will understand that medals are not of that test, then we will speak with you again about a new format of relationship. But it wasn’t necessary to shout «you were deceived!» when «bob» already in a track. Or it was necessary to shout very loudly before start two years ago and to offer medals of the sample, or it is simple not to disturb and allow to the bob to reach to the finish. It was the big mistake of many Russian colleagues who participated in a situation. And substantially it led to the Maidan.

— In your opinion, is the communication between vigorous foreign policy activity of Russia, including in Syria, Iraq, Ukraine and acts of terrorism which happened in Volgograd?

I politicize 25 years and I think that in policy everything and everyne are connected. Therefore, certainly, there is a communication of acts of terrorism, first of all, with the Olympic Games. Someone wants to break the Olympic Games, and someone wouldn’t like success of Russia. And Russia is expected in Sochi by undoubted success, judging by the student’s Olympic Games. Sports is so politicised presently that it is already the part of not social, but political life. Also there are people who wouldn’t like to see Russians with medals under the anthem of Russia.

I think that the Olympic Games can become a strong starting point of the development of Russia as it now has practically all for start, except meanings. In Russia practically there are no strong meanings. And Sochi is the attempt to return big meanings to Russia. The meanings connected with pride, with awareness of greatness of the territory, people opportunities. Therefore semantic splash which can happen in Sochi disturbs competitors. The world became very competitive, and Russia becomes the strong competitor. In the world there is a competition not only economic, but also semantic. Today wins not that who has more than money, but who has strong meanings. Therefore it is, first of all, the attempt to stop Russia at semantic level.

The second is revenge that the Russian management found magic «Word». I was on Valdai by the invitation of the Russian management and thanked the president of the Russian Federation that he returned the sense to political scientists. Till the Syrian situation I thought that any sergeant of the Tomahawk missile system who has a management joystick is more coolly than the political scientist with doctor’s degree as the word was depreciated. And Putin returned belief in the word. He showed that sometimes the word can be stronger, than Tomahawk rockets.

And this return of the word to Russia, force of the word disturbs many. Today they made something in Syria by means of words, tomorrow in Iraq something will make by means of words, after — in Afghanistan and other countries. And it, certainly, disturbs. Therefore they try to stop the word by plastid. But practice shows that the word is stronger even than plastid. If it is stronger than missile systems, probably it is stronger than explosive.

— How the situation with the Maidan can be resolved— will it stand till 2015, according to oppositionists or will disperse earlier? Will the opposition forces receive any dividends from this action or, on the contrary, Maidan would be serious defeat for them?

It is difficult to predict something as authentically financial opportunities of organizers of the Maidan aren’t known. It is clear, that without heat and food, concerts, the sound equipment and TV channels Maidan can’t exist. If they have the resource till 2015, so it will stand.

Will it affect the popularity of opposition? It is doubtful because the power wins always in any position fight. The opposition is a light cavalry. And the scope, waving with checkers is necessary to it constantly during a lynx or gallop. The opposition which sits in entrenchments loses sooner or later. The power always wins in entrenchments. It is able to dig more deeply, to bring more fodder. Therefore if Maidan remains till 2015, it won’t promote increase of a rating of opposition.

Probably, there will be any fresh persons. It is improbable because there is not enough time. But after all there is the chance. The people from the power can be there. They already appear — the deputy Tsarev, and now he is very famous everywhere and declared himself. There are trade-union leaders on the Maidan who try to break through to a tribune. They don’t let yet, but suddenly there will be any hitch or fatigue of oppositional leaders and if in this case any fresh leader from labour unions or the student’s organizations breaks through, it can be untwisted some months prior to high level.

There can be any person who stands over fight. For example, it is much spoken about «Berkut», and there is a politician Berkut, the party leader of Great Ukraine who while stands over fight, but sooner or later will rise on this or that party and can quickly receive popularity. Therefore there are some options. The first option when all lose points — both the opposition, and the power, but opposition loses quicker. And then it isn’t clear, what elections will end because all will have the minimum rating on start.

And the second option — someone will make a fatal mistake. As Zhvanetsky spoke: one careless movement and you are the father. Paraphrasing for current situation: one careless movement and you are the Father of the nation. Therefore someone can make careless movement as a result of which whether he or his opponent becomes the following Father of the nation. Or the miracle can come true, and someone from the third people who are yet absolutely known, suddenly will start heading the ratings.
