Happy independent Estonia already goes hungry in the nationalism nest of Tartu
The blogger of “jurialhaz” starts the next post in the following way: every Thursday in Tartu the great number of people gathers in the dining hall of “Salvation Army” to receive the set of meal. Many of them don't disdain to eat the hot soup directly on a place.
The usual people, men and the women are among the constant visitors of charitable kitchen. Basically they are young and of middle age. The old men are few.
The mistress of kitchen Ave Kalme says that less people come to them in the beginning of month as they get wages at this time.
‘One man admitted that he has paid for habitation and now he has two euros in a pocket till the end of a month”, the woman has told.
And Merle Kram, with the baby on hands comes also for the food help. The jobless husband is waiting at home who has been thrown out on street after bankruptcy of civil engineering firm in which he worked. He searches for work for a long time, but it absent. “They only promise to call back", Merle says. “We live only at the expense of his casual undermining”.
The woman goes on soup kitchen every Thursday and can't imagine as though they have survived without it. She is the certificated expert, the technologist in the meat-and-milk and baking production, but not having the work now.
Yaak tells, “Such trouble not only in Tartu but everywhere in Estonia. Especially in those places, where the industry had been destroyed. Families live at the expense of casual earnings and only macaroni or dishes prepared of own kitchen garden are on their tables. The people have the holiday when there is a small slice of meat, oil or milk on a table. The lion’s share of the extracted hardly money is eaten by the running costs (an electricity, water, rent). I know the families where the children are waiting the time when they have already faster go to school, that to eat their fill, because they are half-starving at home. And the parents don't have even hope that will get a job and it will correct the life by it...”
