Hayk Babukhanyan: “The boat is shaken in the blank space!|”

Presidential election in Armenia ended with a victory of incumbent president Serzh Sargsyan. The result is obvious, but not it suits all therefore still the subject remains in the centre of attention. At our request the situation was commented by the chairman of the party “Constitutional Law Union”, the deputy of National assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hayk Borisovich Babukhanyan:

- Most important is that elections which it is possible to call the best in the history of independent Armenia took place in the republic. They were absolutely transparent, fair and lawful. Any violations actually were not recorded therefore we consider that it is very good result. And that the victory on elections was won by the candidate from ruling Republican Party the president of the republic Serzh Sargsyan who was elected as the leader of national and conservative ideology became very pleasant fact for us.

- How did the society react to results of elections?

- Certainly, the reaction was different. One of the lost candidates does everything possible to shake a situation. But, it is necessary to say that he has no success as all this is frivolous. He gathers the meetings, to two thousand people comes to them in Yerevan, and in areas – some tens people.

If we remember last elections then 50 thousand people gathered on the squares of Yerevan who were dissatisfied with a course and result of elections. And if we glance in 2003 then gathered to 100 thousand people … Certainly, always there will be the people dissatisfied with elections, but this time they appeared very little. And this fact proves my words that elections were honest and they passed in the spirit of legality.

I want to give a characteristic example. On all polling stations in the country and they were one thousand across all Armenia, there were the representatives of opposition parties. And all of them signed the final protocol! There was only one person acted with a dissenting opinion, but thus he signed the protocol. After all there were authorized representatives of candidates, including from the person who now doesn't recognize the results of elections. This person arrived from the USA, he has very close contacts with this country. Now he moves the boat in the blank space!

- You speak about Raffi Hovhannisian who took the second place. He really behaves strange: gather the meetings, denies obvious, make the hunger strike… What is the reason of such strange behaviour?

- Raffi Hovhannisian is one of those who provides the interests of the West in Armenia. As you know, he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs and here one more ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs Vardan Oskanian demanded in general that Armenia passed to the “Libyan” variant! He dreamed of that …

But let’s return to Hovhannisian. It seems that he was mad! One deal is to challenge the results of elections, to find any proofs and absolutely another when the person calls himself as the president! It already reminds the joke: tell in what chamber the presidents lie? ...

The protest electorate was always in our republic; it estimate in 35-40%. Once it followed the same Levon Ter -Petrosyan and this time voted for Raffi Hovhannisian. But he doesn't give real support to this candidate. Firstly, because the candidate is very odious and, secondly, this is the protest electorate, but not the electorate of Hovhannisian.

- At the beginning of April Serzh Sargsyan will officially enter a position of the president of Armenia for the second time. What important events in political arena are coming in the near future?

- Do you know, many people associate Hovhannisian's such strange behaviour with “orange” technologies. All that he didn't manage to achieve on presidential election, he would try to make on others! Hovhannisian dreams to take a revenge on elections of the mayor of the country capital and parliament of Yerevan. These elections are not far off – they will take place on May 5. Now the promotion of candidates began; the parties behave actively, after all elections pass according to party lists.

But there is an option that Raffi Hovhannisian won't move himself forward – this time he will try to carry out the same story with Oskanian. As the former candidate for president behaves strange enough…
