Ivanishvili argues with Saakashvili again

The prime minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili entered more than once into controversy with the president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili. He subjected to criticism the most different directions of policy of Saakashvili who leaves the presidency in October. And always it draws special attention not only the Georgian public, but also in neighbouring countries.

Recently, speaking at spring session of PACE, Bidzina Ivanishvili spoke concerning the relations with Abkhazia and South Ossetia:

- For the last 20 years concerning our brothers - Abkhazians and the Ossetins many mistakes were made from our power. Our purpose is not to repeat similar and not to allow the solution of a question by force. Force use in the future is excluded.

The main key for the solution of this question is the economic and democratic revival of Georgia. Thereby, it becomes interesting both for Abkhazians and the Ossetins and for other world, only after that it is possible to speak about historical processes.

There are no illusions that restoration of territorial integrity of Georgia will happen soon, but with the help of the correct steps we will surely receive result …

Unexpectedly for many the prime minister of Georgia declared about the possibility of participation of representatives of Abkhazia of South Ossetia in PACE work as a part of the Georgian delegation. It, of course, won't suit the independent republics at all, but Ivanishvili emphasized: “Abkhazia and Ossetia are the part of Georgia and, respectively, they would have opportunity to take part together with our delegation in PACE work”. Nevertheless, it is a sign that the policy of Georgia underwent the changes.

And it isn't by chance that Ivanishvili considered necessary to express concerning that policy which was pursued in this question by president Saakashvili:

- The president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili made a big contribution and made many mistakes in the course of violation of territorial integrity of Georgia... We have to demand the answers first of all from the government in connection with the made mistakes that we do...

Saakashvili reacted immediately:

- From this that I heard, the prime minister of Georgia told the following: that, it appears, the only difference is that Kosovo allowed a great number of the international observers on the territory. Abkhazia and Tskhinvali district don't allow observers, and in this regard they need representation in Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. I want to remind the prime minister of Georgia that Kosovo and Abkhazia differ as the sky and the earth. Only the Russian figures, instead of any sober-minded European politician and, especially, the Georgian politician can carry out such comparisons.

… When deputy spitefully adjusted to us asks that Georgia showed aggression against Abkhazians and the Ossetins, I think, the Georgian leader shouldn't answer that we really made a set of mistakes in last years. It is not that answer which wants to hear the world community from us because who then will protect us if ourselves don't protect our positions. Who will protect our independence if one of leaders leaves and speaks: yes, what to do, there was an aggression, we made a set of mistakes and we won't do any more in the future. Let him don't play with a question of territorial integrity because it is a question of our future. We can spoil that already never to correct.

That is, Saakashvili completely confirmed that considers correct the policy which led Georgia to war. But earlier he could do this policy and now, fortunately, can speak about it only … While, however, as the president, but already very soon he should broadcast about “historical merits” as the individual.
