Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia have already died out...
These countries won’t be on the map of future Europe already through some tens years, as, however, both Ukraine and other states of the former USSR, persistently seeking to become full-fledged parts of the Western world.
Stalin “repressions” even close didn't stand with that destruction of the people who were brought by so-called “liberals”, advocates of “universal values”. Is it really unclear to someone? So in that case he is either the fool, or the traitor...
Right after the withdrawal from the USSR, the Baltic States set for themselves the ambitious economic targets. So Estonia intended to become “northern Hong Kong” and Latvia – “northern Switzerland”. The period of 1992-2007 created the feeling that it will be so. The states of Baltic even more often began to call “Baltic tigers”. However, since 2008, deplorable results of economic growth on credit became obvious. The European Central Bank refused to support the credits banking systems of the Baltic States.
And they “laid down”. Afterwards, on a domino effect, all economy laid down which has been grown up on the credits of the European and American banks. Process of falling had deeper roots. Financial crisis bared what latently grew ripe for years of independence of the Baltic States.
Here is the statistics of economy falling of “Baltic tigers” from 2008 to 2012.
Latvia totally lost 77% from annual output during the pre-crisis period. Lithuania - 44%. Estonia- 43%.
What it was
At the time of Union disintegration, the Baltic republics had the best starting conditions for transition to the market relations.
So, in 1970 -1980 years they were in the lead on the volume of investment into fixed capital per capita. Estonia on this indicator won the first place in the USSR. It was followed by Latvia and Lithuania.
During the same period Ukraine lagged behind from all-union on this indicator on 25%, Armenia – 26%, Azerbaijan – 35%.
As a result by 1990 the share of the population, who had the official income more than 300 rubles, was maximum in the Baltic republics. In Estonia – every fifth inhabitant earned more. In Latvia – every sixth. In Lithuania – every seventh. For comparison, as a whole across the Soviet Union, the indicator was at the level of 8, 8%. That is, every twelfth had the income over 300 rubles. And what it was to have a salary more than three hundred a month in the USSR? It was all the same as to have 2000 euro now.
According to the Soviet measures the level of poor people was minimum. The monthly income in 75 rubles was carried to their number.
The population share with such income in Estonia and Latvia didn't exceed 1%, and in Lithuania was slightly more - 1,2%.
There was a demographic boom in the Baltic States for the years of Soviet “occupation”. Only in Lithuania the population grew by one million in half-centuries – from 2, 7 to 3,7 million people. And since 1990 it was reduced more than by 600 thousand. Such decrease wasn't observed during the war and Stalin repressions. Since 2004, the moment of the accession to EU, there was other boom in the Baltic States. Migratory boom.
What became
According to Eurostat, the average salary of citizens of Baltic is lower than unemployment benefits in Europe. And the same Estonian, for the work similar in the homeland, can receive five times more in Finland, than at home.
Such situation led to that only for 2012 more than eight thousand people left Ida-Virusky district of Estonia to Finland. At the district population in 200 thousand. And after all these eight thousand people are the most able-bodied and socially active. And, certainly, as soon as they will settle on a place, they will pull tens of thousands of relatives. Who remains in the district in five-ten years?
It is even worse in Lithuania. The Swedish sociologist, professor Charles Woolfson counted that for the years of independence Lithuania was left by every fifth able-bodied Lithuanian. And process of “evacuation” continues to achieve the rates.
By estimates of local experts if such rates of “flight” from “Baltic tigers” remain in the next years, the Baltic States are waited by the demographic accident after which the social will follow. Outflow of the most able-bodied in two decades will lead to that it would be nothing pay to local pensioners.
If till 2008 the labor migrants actively sent money transfers to native home, now prefer to take out the members of household. And what to do on the depressive homeland?
Eurostat, having analyzing the provision of households in Estonia, came to a conclusion that two thirds are among the poorest and a quarter – to poor. The status of households was defined depending on consumer ability with the equivalent income. Estonia in this “championship” of beggars was overtaken only by Bulgaria and Romania.
According to the European measures, only 3% of Estonian households were safe.
Eurostat's data on an hourly salary in Latvia are depressing following the results of last year. In comparison it made a quarter of an average salary in the European zone as a whole, a third from average in Spain. And a half from Portuguese average.
Migratory flight is aggravated with sharp falling of birth rate. The head of chair of statistics and demography of faculty of economy and management of the Latvian University Peteris Zvidrins testifies: “In the late eighties the birth rate showed big pluses. For comparison: in 1986/1987 in Latvia there were 42 thousand newborns and in 2011 only 18 thousand … Now we are rejected to the lowest point in the history of Latvia when on the average 1,1 children is born on one woman. Alternation of generations happens only for 60%”.
By calculations of the head of the International bureau of the organization of migration Ilmar Mejs, the population of Latvia will total half a million people through four generations. It is a harbinger of fast disappearance of Latvians from the ethnic world map.
The picture of “prosperities” in the Baltic States can be added with some useful figures. At the average income of the ordinary worker in 400-700 euro, the communal flat cost is 250-300.
Especially impresses “availability” of medicine. Visit of the doctor costs 100-200 euro. 24 hours on a hospital bed costs 86 euro. 24 hours of intensive therapy in hospital – 800 euro. Any operations are from 3000 euro.
However, it is possible to use free medicine. If you are in time. Because to get to the doctor on free reception it is possible only in turn. And it begins from three months to two years.
When in the Baltic States there was an advertizing campaign according to the accession to EU, local politicians foretold agriculture blossoming. Still: quality is high and prices low. Under laws of the free market of the EU the country had to flood products from Baltic farmers. However Brussels judged differently. There decided to support own agricultural producers. It isn't market. Administrative. The transaction was offered to peasants of Baltic: you refuse own production and sales and we give you1500 euro in the form of annual compensation. For some years of such policy the whole villages began to agree on conditions of “European allies”. And you have to go to the supermarkets to but the products.
And if earlier the farmer families were the most numerous, now the need to give birth disappeared. After all by century tradition each born child in country families is future worker of the household. And the more children, the more strong economy in the long term.
What will be
According to local experts if the governments of the Baltic States don't find resources to stimulate the economic growth and birth rate, in 50 years the Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians can be included in the Red List as the disappearing people of Europe. Such is the price. European integration. Glory to traitors and idiots.
