Saakashvili: “The salary is of importance!”

The former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, as well as analysts assumed, wasn’t stood too long in the homeland of ancestors after addition of powers of the head of state. Tbilisi «pique vests» guessed even in what he will be engaged now …

The ex-president of Georgia now is in the USA. There he, since the spring will read a course of lectures (not really clear, however, why the Georgian politician will tell the Americans about … the European management). Saakashvili becomes the teacher at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

Here what he speaks about it:

- These days I begin new career in important educational institution. I want to devote time to reflections, analysis … but thus I can’t sit at home without any issue. And despite representations of some people, the salary is of importance for me.

- I met it during the period of «revolution of roses» shortly before he became a president … I thought that the team came which will pull the country towards Europe. I didn’t sleep at the nights, thought out the plan how to help them. At the first meeting with Saakashvili I told that officials need to raise wages first of all. Then ministers and deputies received $10 per month … If the minister’s child starves, can’t go to school and he signs the contracts on million dollars, it would be difficult to stop corruption.

… The barracks were under construction, the regimentals for soldiers were bought on money of fund who walked in fragmentary sneakers and house slippers. They even had no blankets to take cover. I watched only that the weapon wasn’t bought on my money. At that time I helped police too.

… At that time I remained closed, met only Saakashvili, didn’t meet Merabishvili … As I was closed, practically didn’t watch TV, the last I got to know that instead of building democracy, they constructed an autocracy — built a rigid vertical and accumulated all business. Yet there was no cruel dispersal of peace demonstration on November 7, 2007, I understood nothing, and the people, as it appeared, already strongly suffered from them.

Ivanishvili reported that at the time of Mikheil Saakashvili’s presidency he and also Vano Merabishvili, the Minister of Justice Zurab Adeishvili and the mayor of Tbilisi Georgy Ugulava «gathered all money to themselves»:

- Their income as spoke, by estimates made $40 −50 million a month. Mad income, especially for Georgia … The chief prosecutor had a group which monitored the transfers to the sum more than $ thousands. Practically all cash flows were controlled. And everything was organized so that these streams were flown down to them. People forced to renew property. The prosecutor’s office should understand with gift certificates in favour of the state. There are more than 9800 pieces.

… Gradually my mood absolutely fell, I tried to avoid him, the wife answered him by phone that I feel bad … Saying goodbye, I didn’t offer a hand to him. I told: «If you resign, I will communicate with you somehow. Otherwise I will become your enemy». In two days he called, and told that will resign if I help him to advise. And he resigned. In January 2008 extraordinary elections took place. Saakashvili won, but elections were forged, in my opinion.
