The lie concerning the joint, start up and not always the fine Soviet past, became tradition for the Baltic States. In the same way there was traditional the complete inability of their elite to provide not only economic development, but also simple reproduction of the population. Certainly, “the Russian invaders” are guilty in it who built institutes, schools and the enterprises, providing the highest standard of living in the USSR...
The next report of the Central Statistical Department of Latvia confirmed a catastrophic condition of a demographic situation in the country. During the last 10 years the country lost 307 thousand people - 12,9% of the population. Figures are quite comparable to losses for years of World War II when population of Latvia decreased in 400 thousand inhabitants.
The population decreases owing to excess of mortality over birth rate - for 10 years the country lost 115 thousand inhabitants for this reason and also because of emigration. According to official figures, 192 thousand people left Latvia for the last 10 anniversary. Actually losses can be much more: many who left the country didn't declare the departure.
Birth rate level in Latvia is the lowest in its history and one of the lowest in the world. On the average the Latvian women born 1,1 children while for ensuring the reproduction of the nation the average value of birth rate has to be 2,1 children on one woman.
“In the late eighties the birth rate showed big pluses. For comparison: in 1986/1987 the newborns in Latvia were 42 thousand and in 2011 – only 18 thousand”, told the head of department of statistics and a demography of faculty of economy and management of the Latvian University Peteris Zvidrins to Neatkarīgā RMta AvMze newspaper.
Having noticed the reasons of decrease in birth rate, the scientist noted also negative influence of migration: “The biggest deficiency arises because of emigration. It became the main demographic, social, economic and political problem of our country”.
It is counted that if the rates of reduction of the population won't change the last inhabitant of Latvia will leave (or will die) approximately in the 2070th year.
