What is the mood? Against Saakashvili!

The large-scale opinion poll of the population under the name “Public mood in Georgia” was carried out in Georgia. The purpose is to understand the attitude of citizens, as the parliamentary elections will take place very soon and it would be not out of place to know what do the voters live. The questions were different, but the result was the one, in general: Mikheil Saakashvili loses positions.

It is clear that the situation in the republic is very interesting her main sponsor as regards the construction of exemplary democracy, namely the USA. Therefore, the National Democratic Institute of the USA (NDI) also took an interest whom the citizens of Georgia want to see as the following president? The question with a false bottom, as Mikheil Saakashvili can't run for this post more.

Results don't deliver optimism for Saakashvili and his team which once again has been recently reshuffled: only 22 % of respondents answered that they would prefer the candidate from ruling party “United national movement”. At the same time almost as much, 20 % of respondents, want to see that candidate as the future president of Georgia the quite recently politicized leader of movement “Georgian dream” Bidzin Ivanishvili who will be supported. Another 4 % of respondents would like that the leader of other oppositional political force, namely Christian - democratic movement George Targamadze became the president.

It is very indicative that 3 % aren't going to vote to any candidate, 25 % answered “do not know” and 17 % refused to answer at all! Such results for Saakashvili are very unpleasant surprise! There are no any grounds not to trust them: the investigation was carried out in scales of all country, 6 299 people took part in poll. And the poll was carried out the Caucasus Research Resource Center (CRRC) at the financing of the Agency of Development of Sweden (Sida) at the request of the NDI.

But there is still more time to presidential election and now the country waits the parliamentary elections. And there is not a secret in Georgia that the changes will enter the Constitution in the republic after all elections which considerably will strengthen a role of the prime minister. The opposition repeatedly noted that the changes were brought in the Constitution in advance with only one purpose - to provide the power preservation for Mikheil Saakashvili, but already as the prime minister.

Here they didn't begin to use cunning and asked directly: do the citizens of Georgia agree that Mikheil Saakashvili changed the presidential post to premier? And there is no reason for pleasure: this remarkable idea is supported only by 33 percent of poll participants. But 36 % of respondents expressed against Saakashvili's appointment to a post of the prime minister! 27 % declared that don't know the answer to this question, and 3 % refused to answer, that is, thereby they support the idea in an indirect form too that Saakashvili doesn’t remain still at the helm of Georgia.

But, maybe, they asked not about that? It is necessary not to speak about the future, but about the present?! And they asked about it too: the meticulous experts asked the citizens of Georgia to estimate the activity of various persons and organizations. And here Saakashvili was waited by uniform catastrophe – it appeared that his authority was blown off as a pebble-leather.

The highest appreciation for the activity received Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, the archbishop Mtskheta-Tbilisi and metropolitan of Pitsunda and Tskhum-Abkhazia Ilia II. 69 % of respondents estimated of their activity very well!

The second and third places were divided by the main political opponent of president Saakashvili, the leader of movement “Georgian dream” Bidzin Ivanishvili and quite recently become the prime minister of Georgia, the former Minister of Internal Affairs Vano Merabishvili. Their assessment is 12 %.

And where is the president? Mikheil Saakashvili received very low mark – only 8 % of respondents estimated his activity as “very good”. But the trouble, as we know, doesn't come alone: the assessment of oppositional movement “Georgian dream” by the voters appeared higher than the ruling party “United national movement”: 11 % against 8 %. So, seemingly, the Georgian people were bothered by the president who arranged the real national crash, but he is thus confident in general approval of self-destructive policy for the Georgian statehood which he will see off. And the elections should prove it. If, of course, will pass by rules …
