Yury Kobaladze: the question of the Russian borders remains open

Yury Kobaladze is the known person in Russia: he is known as the journalist and as … intelligence officer. The professor of the Moscow State University of Foreign Affairs, the first deputy director general of ITAR-TASS in the past, the major general of the Foreign Intelligence Service in resignation, the business analyst … He doesn’t forget today about media, shares the reflections about the events.

Here Yury Kobaladze’s opinion on the calls facing Russia in the sphere of foreign policy:

- Russia felt terribly wounded by with what the situation in Libya ended. I am convinced that the concept of Americans to introduce democracy to the Arab countries is impracticable. Experience of Iraq showed that the threats can be invented. Remember that it was a question of detection the weapon of mass destruction there… And Tony Blair said then tremendous speech which was based on a forgery! The authorities compelled intelligence services to provide them forged materials …

And what they reached as a result? The weapon crept away from Libya across all Africa. Events in Mali are a direct consequence. And, of course, Putin and Lavrov are absolutely right when say that drawing bombing attacks to Libya could solve nothing — as a result one more turmoil was received.

I consider that a position of Russia is only the true in a situation across Syria. It is absolutely correct, perspective and giving the chance of a resolution of conflict. Putin allowed Obama to break the deadlock from which he didn’t know how to get out.
I hope that it is good base further to build the relations with Americans.

Here, across Afghanistan we, on the one hand, try to put of a stick in wheels to Americans. And on the other hand, we understand that as soon as Americans will leave from there, the consequences will be unpredictable! Then it is necessary to enclose enormous money to equip border in Tajikistan. Who knows how «Taliban» will lead? But in any case pressure upon border will be enormous.

And it is not the question of our relations with the West, but understanding question: what do we want?! After all disorder of the Soviet Union is not the guilt of Armenia, Uzbekistan or still any republic —it is the guilt of Russia. After all the Russians told by Yeltsin’s lips: take the sovereignty so much, as many you want … I remember what was told to Russians in discussions: it will be better without this makeweight, we were tired to feed them …
And when Russia told: you aren’t necessary to us any more — whose party the same Georgia had to turn? It also looked towards America, towards Europe. Especially the personell was ready already. After all who is that Saakashvili? This is the person with the American, European education. And here Russia suddenly woke up, but after all emptiness is surely filled! And in this sense it is possible to speak about return of these countries to an orbit of Russia with big reservations.

I well remember how 20 years ago Nazarbayev gathered the press and spoke about the Eurasian Union, about restoration of communications which were artificially torn. Now we speak about it, but the world already left forward. I understand sincere excitement of Russia if Ukraine signs the contract with the European Union. Very difficult situation … We live in very difficult world. And Russia now pays off and if you want, bears burden of those decisions which were made rather thoughtlessly.

If the system exists long ago, it is impossible to think that if suddenly chop off everything, it won’t resist. Who could foretell in 1980 that the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia will be collapsed … We are the witnesses of really tectonic changes. I don’t undertake to judge what will be in 20−30 years. But there are no doubts that a question of borders of Russia is the open question!
