Saakashvili is left without property

It seems that the former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili will be the focus of attention in the homeland for a long time though you can’t get him here for love or money. Now, for example, the decision on arrest of his property is actively discussed in Georgia which on request of prosecutor’s office was made by City Court of Tbilisi. It is impossible to appeal against the decision as it was already approved by the relevant Court of Appeal. Not only the property of the ex-president was arrested, but also his close relatives.

The arrested Mikheil Saakashvili’s property:
- HONDA ACCORD car, 1988 year of manufacture.
- agricultural land of 2,332 sq. m in the city of Kvareli.
- agricultural land of 1,316 sq. m in the city of Kvareli.
- agricultural land of 2,441 sq. m in the city of Kvareli.
- agricultural land of 1,207 sq. m in the city of Kvareli.
- agricultural land of 6,820 sq. m with the building of 97 sq. m. in the city of Kvareli.
- agricultural land of 1,207 sq. m in the city of Kvareli.
- agricultural land of 682 sq. m in the city of Kvareli.
- agricultural land of 1,668 sq. m in the city of Kvareli.
- agricultural land of 2,367 sq. m in the city of Kvareli.

The arrested property of Mikheil Saakashvili’s wife Sandra Roelofs:

- The apartment of 154 sq. m and a penthouse of 164 sq. m on Barnov Street No. 9 in Tbilisi.

The arrested property of Mikheil Saakashvili’s mother Giuli Alasania:

- agricultural land of 1,313 sq. m in the city of Kvareli.
- agricultural land of 251 sq. m in the city of Kvareli.
- agricultural land of 334 sq. m in the city of Kvareli.
- The apartment of 172,80 sq. m on Chavchavadze Street No. 5 in Batumi.
- 50 percent share in JSC Yuji bagi.

The arrested property of Mikheil Saakashvili’s grandmother Mziya Tsereteli:
- apartment of 197 sq. m under construction on Chavchavadze Street No. 37 in Tbilisi.
- agricultural land of 500 sq. m in the village Natanebi.
- TOYOTA RAV4 car, 2010 year of manufacture.
The main prosecutor’s office of Georgia considered necessary to explain the actions, having published the special statement. It follows from it:
- As it is known to society, the former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili is accused of waste of 8 million 837 thousand 461,34 laris belonging to the state budget, than caused material damage in large sizes to the state.
As the accused Mikheil Saakashvili avoids investigation, there was a reasonable assumption that with the purpose to avoid possible property responsibility, he would sell or otherwise hid the property and also the property which is registered on the related persons that would prevent compensation of the damage caused to the state.
Saakashvili’s colleagues right responded to the events, seeking to put white clothes on the former chief again. The deputy of the Georgian parliament Nugzar Tsiklauri representing nowadays the opposition party «United National Movement» declared that sees «methods of the Bolshevism and primitive envy» and his colleague Georgy Gabashvili drew a conclusion in television air that «this decision doesn’t have something general with the law». The reason for everything, according to him, is «personal revenge» of the main political opponent of Saakashvili — Bidzina Ivanishvili:
- This decision is constructed on personal revenge of Ivanishvili, this decision doesn’t have something general with the law, this is the usual continuation of that political campaign of prosecution which lasted and lasts still.
Mikheil Saakashvili’s mother Giuli Alasania spoke in this respect too whose property was also subjected to arrest:
- Nobody contacted me and I got to know not from prosecutor’s office. I don’t know details, but I am very surprised because consider it as misunderstanding, full absurdity. I think, we live in a kingdom of curve mirrors. Why does it concern the mother and the grandmother if it concerns my son? It is unclear for me too.
Well, and, certainly, also Mikheil Saakashvili didn’t keep silent. Here is his comment to the latest events:
- That property which today or in the last days Ivanishvili took away is a classical example of uncorrupted president, of state officials who don’t steal… Show me at least one president around the world, who had been a president for 9 years and has a smaller house than my the only house.
The speech that they have seized not my property, but seized Georgia stopped all processes in Georgia. The country is in that situation in which it is. In Georgia there are impunity, lawlessness, degenerate situation and marasmus!
The former president of Georgia has no time on more vast explanations, after all he just filed documents on receiving a working visa of the USA. He told The New York Times about it. The reason is clear: the ex-president of Georgia plans to renew cooperation with prestigious Tufts University again near Boston which was interrupted in May. Saakashvili is going to give lectures again.
For now, as the authoritative edition notices, he is too busy: «enjoys bars and cafe on his new homeland», writes memoirs, acts with «lectures which are very well paid», participates in creation of research institute in Washington. Certainly, he doesn’t forget the friends: senator John McCain, the ex-director of CIA David Petraeus and the well-known assistant to the United States Secretary of State Victoria Nuland are his interlocutors. Probably, together they dream of bright future and drink for return of everything that was sewed by back-breaking toil. Especially, as Saakashvili told to newsmen: «I am not poor, but the prices in Williamsburg (the city in the USA where he lives now) are really high» …
